Gorilla trekking in Rwanda has to be one of the most amazing travel activities that I have embarked on. I am widely travelled in Africa and across the world. Gorillas trekking has to go down as the most fascinating experiences of my entire life so far. After being assigned gorilla groups, we transferred to the base of the mountain from where we ascended through the thick mountain forest. We visited the Susa gorilla group which as we had been warned would take a fairly long walking time to meet. It is a fairly arduous walk but what well worth it after you meet what awaits you.

Our ranger guide asked us to stop the moment he spotted the gorillas only a few metres away where the silverback gorilla, the leader of our troop was watching over his gorilla family. The sight of a mother gorilla cuddling and holding onto a teeny weeny gorilla into her arms is something to die for. No words can adequately describe the feeling one gets in the presence of the exciting gorillas.

They have obviously been habituated to human presence as they looked so comfortable having us around and were eager to have us share their part of the world and habitat albeit for only the recommended 1 hr. I wish I could have stayed longer to simply marvel at the gorillas as they playfully interacted amongst themselves, munched away at the bamboo shoots. We snapped away as much as we could, and later departed to return to the base of the mountain where our driver guide for the day had patiently waited for us- Karen James USA.

Canadian Diplomat;

Hi Kizito,

Thank you very much for arranging our trip so perfectly.We enjoyed our trip to Rwanda very much and were glad we could fit it in before we head back across the Atlantic for a three-year posting in the U.S.  I have passed your coordinates on to at least three other Canadians here in Nairobi who have indicated an interest in doing a similar trip. Ali was great - very nice, kind gentleman. Everything went smoothly and we built in enough time in the schedule to not feel too rushed.

It would seem that choices of accommodation are a bit limited in the Park area and seeing that we weren't willing to spend $800/night/person, I felt Gorilla View Lodge was a good choice. However, the Lodge is a bit tired; they could work on improving their bathrooms in the cottages in particular. It's cold up there in the mountains which as you told us  is a regular thing. Knowing that, we had to remind (alot) the staff about having a good supply of firewood available. Thanks for your efforts. We are pleased we made the trip to Rwanda. You run a very reliable and efficient trip handling service and you have a beautiful country . We hope to visit again.-The Barkers.
