Chimpanzee Permits Uganda.

Chimpanzee permits for tracking chimps in Kibale or tracking chimpanzees in Queen Elizabeth Uganda. For most primate lovers, a gorilla tour to Uganda or Rwanda will usually involve visits to see both the gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Uganda is blessed with an opportunity to be able to track chimps in both Kibale National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park in the Kyambura Gorge sector of the park.

Tracking Chimps in Uganda is a very enriching experience. UWA arranges 2 options for visitors to choose from. You may either trek chimps for 3-4hrs through Kibale Forest National Park or join the full day chimp habituation experience in Kibale.

Chimp permits for Kibale cost US$150 per chimpanzee permit. There is 2 chimp tracking sessions per day. A visitor can either join the morning or afternoon session. Each session is restricted to 16pax, so we strongly advise that you book your chimpanzee permits well ahead of your arrival to Uganda for the start of your Uganda chimpanzee tour.

We request for a US$30 admin fee for each chimp permit to assist us cover our overheads, which include services like checking for availability of your chimp permit, upon purchase we shall scan and email you a copy of your chimpanzee permit and your chimp permit can be delivered to you on arrival to Kampala or forwarded to your Kibale or Fort Portal accommodation incase you are not transiting through Kampala as some travellers do.

Chimpanzee Tracking and Habituation in Kibale.

Most visitors to Kibale are here for a range of activities including, chimpanzee tracking, the Bigodi swamp walk and the primate walk through the forest. Primate lovers will have a memorable experience visiting Kibale as 13 primates species can be seen, as well as different types of monkeys. The star and biggest attraction to the Kibale Forest Nature walk however is undoubtedly the chimpanzees. The chances of locating chimps at Kibale are the highest when compared to other places including Kyambura or Nyungwe in Rwanda. The success rate is extremely high as there is a very high concentration and high population density of chimps in Kibale with large chimp numbers in each troop. Guided chimp tracking walks start at 8am and 2pm and last an average of three hours.

The full-day Kibale Chimpanzee Habituation Experience gives visitors a chance to work with a chimp community which is undergoing habituation. If you arrive early you will get a chance to witness the chimpanzees waking up from their overnight nests between 6:00 - 6:30am before they go about their daily business, mating feeding, looking for food, breast feeding, playing, resting, patrolling and cheekily jumping from tree to tree until about 7pm when they return to build new nests for the night.

Chimp Tracking in Queen Elizabeth-Kyambura Gorge.

In addition to tracking chimps in Kibale, visitors are able to see chimps in Kyambura Gorge sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The chances of seeing the chimpanzees in Kyambura are much less than in Kibale. The Kyambura chimp experience is more geared towards meeting the chimps in their natural habitat and surroundings. Kyambura also offers visitors the experience to watch birds, see monkeys and participate in a chimpanzee habituation experience.

Like in Kibale, chimp tracking tours last between 1-3hours and commence at both 8 am and 14:00hrs daily all year round.
